Buran Ghati – The Boundary Separating Kinnaur from Shimla
The pristine Buran Ghati Trek is the less travelled, lesser known trek in the central-hills of the Himalayas. It is adorned with the most exciting river crossings, high snow walls, beautiful forests, endless grasslands, mountain peaks and serene villages on the way. Buran Ghati is undoubtedly one of the most amazing and adventurous treks in the Himalayan region. The Buran Pass trek takes you to the humongous walkway etched in the middle of snow mountains. Buran Ghati Pass trek offers ample scope for rappelling adventure from the high snow walls.
The trek to Buran Pass begins at Janglikh, a village situated in the upper region of Shimla District at left bank of Pabber river. The first half of trek is about getting over the Pabbar Valley, exploring the holy Chandranahan Lakes (The Seven glacial ponds), and conquering the Buran Pass at 4580 m. The second half is exploring over the Baspa Valley (The Land of Shiva). The trek ends there and you can go for exploring the Baspa valley or you can go back to your own destination.
The end point of the trek, Barua village is a quite historical. The village is set amidst the mountains, forests & grasslands and most deadliest road which goes to Sangla (The dream destination).

Distance: 150 km from Shimla to Janglik Village (9,400 ft)
Time: 6 hrs
On arrival at Shimla you will be received by our representative at bus stand and transported to Janglikh. Drive through the beautiful valley, en route Khadapathar or via Narkanda and Rohru.
The journey to Janglikh will take 6-7 hours.
After briefing, camp overnight at Janglikh village. The day ends with the bonfire, dinner.

Level: Moderate
Start leisurely. One can explore the village. The village is pure heritage and full of photographer`s delight.
After breakfast trek towards Dayara Thach.
The trek winds through the thick forests, beautiful meadows and grassy land ascents.
It's a moderate trek, takes around 4-5 hours to reach Dayara Thach.
Dinner and night stay at beautiful meadow Dayara Thach.

Start your day exploring the Dayara meadows.
This trek promises you thick forest cover, fast gushing streams, meadows and an altitude of 737 feet within 3 hours.
The trail through the Gunas Pass, snow clad Dhaulandhar range, Silver Birch leads you to the first clear view of Litham.
Cross the Chandranahan stream to reach our Litham campsite. Relax with the best spot on the camp to enjoy the rest of the evening in the laps of nature.
Three sided view of Litham makes it all the more picturesque.
Start from Litham campsite after an early exploration for day exploration of Chandranahan lake. Chandranahan Waterfalls on your left followed by Chandranahan Lake and the snow clad mountains. Back to Litham campsite by 4:00 pm.

Its a 4 hour trek from Litham Thach to Nalabansh at 13,000 feet.
Pass through the Rupin valley cliffs on the right. While descending the valley, you get the first view of Buran Ghati and Gunas waterfall.
A bit more than an hours climb will lead you to Nalabansh.
Relax at the campsite, dinner and overnight stay.

Altitude: via 15,000 ft to 9,000 ft
Distance: 9 km

With thrilling climb mostly on the snow at 15,000 feet, will be the most adventurous thing you would have ever done.
Two hours descent in the snowline.
Through the flowing stream on the other side is the way to your campsite for overnight stay.
Dinner and night stay at beautiful Munirang.
Time: 4-5 hrs for trek
Altitude: 6,700 feet

Trek down from Munirang to Barua village on an easy gradient trail. Reach Barua village by 11:30 am - 12:00 noon.

1. How difficult is Buran Ghati trek ?
Buran Ghati trek is a moderate-difficult trail as it requires great endurance and stamina. In seven days, you gain 5,800 ft altitude with an average 5-6 hours of trek per day. First two days of the trek are relatively easier. You climb nearly 2,000 ft during the first day and another 700 ft on the second day.

Buran Ghati trek is approximately 20 km of trail on a moderate-difficult gradient.
3. Is Buran Ghati trek safe ?
Yes, overall Buran Ghati trek is a safe Himalayan trail as per mountaineering standards.
4. Which month is best for trek to Buran Ghati ?
The best time to do Buran Ghati Trek is from May to June and September to October. Summer season from May to June & early July i.e the pre-monsoon months of May and June and even the first two weeks of July are tailor-made for the Buran Ghati trek.
5. How high is Buran Pass ?
Buran Pass altitude is 4,590 m / 15059 ft. The panoramic view from Buran Pass is one of the best Himalayan views. The trail after the pass is a straight wall where you have to slide for the most part of it. This bit can be technical at times & rappelling may be required for ascending down the considerably straight face of ice.
6. Is Buran Ghati trek for beginners ?
Yes, its a highly recommended trek for beginners as it gives a rich insight into Himalayan trekking within a span of 7-8 days. However, some portions of the trail are high gradient which can be bit challenging for beginners. It is mandatory to have an above average fitness level for this trek.
7. Is it necessary to hire a guide on this trek ?
Yes, it is absolutely highly recommended to take a guide for Buran Pass trek whether you are trekking solo or in a group.
8. Will there be snow at Buran Pass trek in May-June ?
Yes, Buran Pass trek is snow bound till June end to early July.
9. Is this trek suitable for kids ?
It is ideally recommended for 15+ age group.
10. Is this trail safe for women & solo travelers ?
Yes, in fact all the Himalayan trails are quite safe for women & solo travelers. People of the region are very warm, caring & hospitable in nature.
11. What type of accommodation is available during this trek ?
Camping tent accommodation (2-3 per tent) for 5 nights & homestay at Barua village on Day 6.
12. What is the washroom facility on Buran Pass trek ?
The trekking region is a reserved forest area where only temporary campsites are permitted by the forest deptt. So there are camping tents alongwith toilet tents on the campsite.
13. Do we have to give tip money to guides / porters ?
Guides & porters in the region will never demand any tip money from you. They just need their daily wages paid by the trek operator. However, it is always encouraging if one can give a little tip to them if they provide good services.
14. Which currency is accepted during transit or in nearby villages on this trek ?
Indian currency (INR) is accepted here.
